Omar Khayyam poems about wine in Persian with English translations

These poems by Omar Khayyam beautifully express the intoxicating allure and symbolism of wine in various aspects of life.

Present the wine-filled cup and speak of what it said,
What did it say to the one whose heart is ruined by love?
I desire wine and I give it to the one who desires it,
What did it say to the one who desires ruin?

Wine in sleep and a cup on the head,
I give it not to the old or young heart.
When it becomes non-existent, it becomes eternal,
I give it to others, not to myself.

Happy is the heart that drinks blood from the cup,
In it, the vision of wonders is present.
The goodness of the heart surpasses all spiritual beings,
Except for the wonder, there is no sign in it.

Since I can make all people drunk with your cup,
How can I enjoy the delight of my soul?
You give the ray of joy through my wine,
I bind the fire of goodness in my cup.

O my soul's cupbearer, pour the wine,
So that all the blood flows out of my heart.
My hands are tied in despair,
See what I am doing at this moment.

The cup that possesses a magical hand,
Drink the wine in it, and you won't have a headache.
The pain of love, like a flute player,
Gives a headless and footless heart for a moment.

Drink wine, for you have been separated from the souls of friends,
Without wine, you will live your entire life in seclusion.
Alas, no one in that land but regrets,
Has seen joyless and seeks happiness.

Until your eyes and heart are ruined,
You won't see dreams without ruin and the ruined.
Every person whose eyes are ruined without wine,
I give them wine so they won't look at the road without wine.

Omar Khayyam's poems about death

"When death's embrace shall close upon my soul,
Let not my passing be marked with sorrow's toll.
Instead, remember me with laughter and cheer,
For in memories, my essence shall forever dwell ..."

Omar Khayyam's poems about spring

"The Spring, that put the spirit in my veins,
Has turned the dust of longing into rains.
The garden blooms, the nightingale's song rings,
And in my heart, a thousand joys remain ..."

This caravan of life passes in a wondrous way,
Seize the moment that passes with delight.
O sorrowful cupbearer, why do you drink the wine of tomorrow?
Bring forth the goblet, for the night is passing ...
